El mes de la herencia Hispana es celebrado cada año de Septiembre 15 a Octubre 15. Empezó como una celebración de una semana en 1968 bajo el Presidente Johnson y fue expandida a un mes por el presidente Reagan 20 años después en 1988. La celebración de un mes de duración provee más tiempo para propiamente reconocer las contribuciones de la comunidad Hispana.

El mes de la herencia hispana cubre la mitad de Septiembre y Octubre porque muchos países Centro Americanos celebran el día de su independencia entre esas fechas. ¡Empezando con el día de hoy, Septiembre 15, celebramos a Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, y Nicaragua!

Alineándose con estas fechas de independencia, el mes de la herencia hispana honora la resiliencia y la determinación de la comunidad Hispana.

Shirley was 99 years old when she called 911 for help. What happened next raises serious questions about what we owe our most vulnerable neighbors—and what must happen when the systems meant to protect them fall short.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape.

Our work alongside police officers and firefighters has given us a deep appreciation for what it means to answer the call — on the hardest days, in the most difficult moments, and without knowing what may come next.

We are grateful for those who serve, mindful of the sacrifices that service can require, and committed to standing with the first responder community.
