Do you need a lawyer if you’re using mediation?
Not necessarily. But understanding the difference between mediation and legal representation is important.
In mediation, the mediator remains neutral and helps both spouses work through decisions and reach agreements. They do not represent either person.
You can also choose to have your own attorney review the final agreement before signing. While not required, this can provide added peace of mind and help you understand your rights.
Every situation is different. If you’re considering mediation, learning about your options is a good place to start.
