Beware! If you using your personal vehicle to drive for Lyft or Uber or one one the other delivery apps, it is likely that your personal car insurance won’t cover you if you get in an accident, even though you pay your premium every month. That is because they have exclusions for “business use” or “transportation for hire”. It is a nasty surprise when you need that policy you paid for and they say “sorry you are not covered!”
The remedy? Tell your insurance agent what you are doing and ask for special coverage for business use. It will cost a little extra but it’s better than losing your car and have no one pay for it, because the jerk who hit you was uninsured. You can also check with the app you work for and ask if you can purchase insurance through them, then compare prices. But don’t find yourself uninsured when you really need it!
