Yesterday was a powerful reminder of what investing in young people can do for a city.

Students from across our community took part in Youth in City Government Day at the City of Elizabeth, stepping into City Hall, shadowing officials, and participating in a mock council session inside the Council Chambers. Their questions, energy, and leadership made one thing clear: the future of our city is in good hands!

For me, this day is especially meaningful. More than 40 years ago, in 1984, I sat in those same seats as a student during Youth in City Government Day. I could not have imagined then that one day I would return not as a participant, but as Council President of the fourth largest city in New Jersey.

Programs like this don’t just teach government—they build pathways, spark civic engagement, and show young people that their voice matters. I’m proud to see this tradition continue shaping the next generation of leaders in Elizabeth.

Today is a very special day for our family as we celebrate the graduation of my youngest son, Adam, from Kean University. 🎓

Adam earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematical Sciences and Education, graduating Cum Laude, an achievement that reflects his hard work and perseverance.

He is now beginning the next chapter of his journey as a high school mathematics teacher, where I know he will inspire and positively impact so many young people. 📚🏫🧑🏻‍🏫

Congratulations, Adam!

Mom and I are incredibly proud of you and all that you have accomplished. Your future is very bright! ✨👏
