Long-Term Care Insurance: Why Think About It Early?

When you’re starting your career, long-term care insurance probably isn’t on your radar. You’re busy building your life, paying bills, saving for a home, and planning for retirement.

But here’s something worth considering: Who will pay for your care if you eventually need help living independently?

Long-term care can be expensive, and Medicare generally doesn’t cover ongoing custodial care.

A long-term care insurance policy may help pay for eligible in-home care, assisted living, or nursing home services, depending on the coverage you choose.

Why consider it early?

You may qualify for lower premiums while you’re younger and healthy. You may also have more opportunities to qualify before certain health conditions develop.

The potential benefits include:

✳ Helping protect your retirement savings and other assets
✳Giving you more choices for receiving care
✳Helping ease the financial burden on your loved ones
✳Preparing for expenses your health insurance may not cover

Of course, every policy is different, and premiums must remain affordable over time. That’s why understanding the benefits, exclusions, limits, and costs is so important.

You work hard to build a future for yourself and your family. Planning for the possibility of long-term care is another way to protect that future.

Don’t wait until you need care to start asking questions. Learn your options while you have time to plan.✳

HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU AND YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FAMILY! 🐾

You know who never asks about your salary, doesn't care if the house is spotless, and thinks you're the greatest person in the world just because you walked through the door?

Your pet. ❤️

Whether you have a dog who claims your favorite spot on the couch, a cat who acts like they own the entire house, or a furry friend who has been by your side through life's ups and downs, they're family. And for many of us, we can't imagine life without them.

But here's something worth thinking about this weekend…

Have you made a plan for your pet if something happens to you?

It's not the easiest thing to think about, but it's an important part of caring for the animals we love.

Who would take them in if you were suddenly unable to care for them? Would that person know their feeding routine, medications, favorite toys, or the little things that make them feel safe? And could they afford to care for them?

Pet estate planning allows you to name a trusted caregiver, leave instructions for their care, and consider setting aside money for their food, veterinary visits, medication, and other needs.

Without a plan, the people who love you may be left scrambling to figure out what's best for your pet during an already difficult time.

Our pets depend on us for everything. Planning for their future is one more way we can show them how much they mean to us.

So this weekend, enjoy those extra cuddles, take the long walk, share a little playtime, and give your furry family member an extra treat (if their diet allows it!).

And when you have a quiet moment, think about who would care for them if you couldn't.

Because our pets are more than pets. They're family. And family deserves a plan.🐶🐱

From all of us, have a wonderful weekend filled with love, happy tails, and plenty of purrs!

Medi-Cal Isn’t Just for People Who Have No Money

You work hard, pay your bills, raise your family, and save what you can. But have you thought about what would happen if you or a loved one needed long-term care?

Many middle-income families assume they won’t qualify for Medi-Cal because they have savings or own a home. Others worry that nursing home care could wipe out everything they’ve worked so hard to build.

The truth is that Medi-Cal has specific eligibility rules, and your options depend on your individual circumstances.

That’s why planning ahead matters.

Start by learning about long-term care costs, understanding Medi-Cal eligibility, reviewing your financial options, and making sure your estate planning documents are in place.

You don’t have to be wealthy to plan. You just need to start asking the right questions.

Caring for your family means thinking about the difficult moments, too. A little preparation today can help your loved ones make informed decisions when they need them most.

Your family deserves a plan, not just a hope that everything will work out.

Consider speaking with a qualified elder law professional to understand your options before a crisis happens.

Who Will Pay for Mom or Dad’s Care?

It’s a question most families don’t want to think about.

What happens if Mom or Dad eventually needs help with daily activities, moves into assisted living, or needs nursing home care?

And perhaps the bigger question: Who is going to pay for it?

Many families assume Medicare will cover long-term care. That’s a common misconception. Medicare generally does not pay for ongoing custodial care, such as help with bathing, dressing, eating, or other daily activities.

That’s where planning becomes so important.

Depending on your circumstances, long-term care may be paid for through personal savings, long-term care insurance, Medi-Cal, or a combination of resources. Each option has its own rules, limitations, and eligibility requirements.

The important thing is not to wait until there is a crisis to start figuring it out.

A sudden health event can leave a family trying to make decisions about care while also worrying about finances. Having a conversation early gives everyone an opportunity to understand the options, review important documents, and make a plan that reflects the family’s wishes and financial situation.

Ask yourself:

Do we know what kind of care Mom or Dad would want?

Do we know how that care would be paid for?

Have we talked about long-term care insurance or Medi-Cal?

Are the appropriate financial and healthcare documents in place?

You don’t have to have every answer today.

But knowing the questions to ask can make a tremendous difference later.

Planning for long-term care isn’t simply about preparing for an expense. It’s about giving your family a roadmap when they may need it most.

KEEP ME COMFORTABLE

We hear people say it all the time.

But what does it actually mean?

Does it mean you want every treatment available if there is a chance of recovery?

Does it mean you don't want aggressive treatment if you are unlikely to recover?

Do you want to be at home if possible?

Would you want pain and anxiety treated even if certain medications make you sleepy?

These aren't easy conversations. And nobody wants to sit around the dinner table talking about what might happen at the end of their life.

But your family may have to make those decisions someday.

And if they don't know what you would want, they may be left trying to make the best decision they can while they're scared, emotional and worried about getting it wrong.

That's why having the conversation while you're healthy matters.

An advance healthcare directive can help put your wishes in writing and identify the person you trust to speak for you if you can't speak for yourself.

You don't have to have all the answers today.

Start with a conversation.

Tell the people you love what matters to you. Then take the next step and put your wishes in writing.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give our family isn't money - lt's clarity when they need it most.

.THE HOLLYWOOD LANDMARK THAT HAS SEEN IT ALL

If the walls of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre could talk, Hollywood would have a LOT of stories to tell.

Opened in 1927, this legendary Hollywood Boulevard landmark was the creation of showman Sid Grauman, who wanted something spectacular. He delivered with enormous red columns, a 30-foot stone dragon, Chinese-inspired architecture and two giant stone dogs guarding the entrance.

The grand opening was pure Hollywood, featuring Cecil B. DeMille’s The King of Kings and some of the biggest stars of the era.

But the real Hollywood magic happened outside.

The Famous Footprints Were Almost an Accident

The tradition reportedly began when actress Norma Talmadge accidentally stepped into wet cement while visiting the theater during construction.

Sid Grauman saw the opportunity and turned the accident into a Hollywood institution.

Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks were among the first stars to leave their hand and footprints in the forecourt in 1927.

And Hollywood has been putting its hands and feet in cement ever since.

Marilyn Monroe Left More Than a Footprint

When Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell made their impressions in 1953, Marilyn reportedly wanted to put a diamond in the cement.

Management said no, worried someone might steal it.

So Marilyn left an earring instead.

Naturally, someone later tried to remove it. The earring broke, but part of it reportedly remains embedded in the cement.

Only in Hollywood.

Even Trigger Got In

Roy Rogers’ famous horse, Trigger, had his hoofprints immortalized in 1949.

And Edgar Bergen’s famous ventriloquist dummy, Charlie McCarthy, also became part of the forecourt’s history.

Hollywood has never been particularly strict about who qualifies as a celebrity.

Then Came Mel Brooks

When comedian Mel Brooks left his impressions in 2014, he decided five fingers weren’t enough.

He added a sixth.

Because if you're going to make Hollywood history, you might as well make people laugh.

Then Came Kobe

In 2011, Los Angeles legend Kobe Bryant became the first athlete to receive hand and footprints at the theater.

By then, the Chinese Theatre wasn't simply celebrating movie stars. It had become a monument to people who had left an unforgettable mark on Los Angeles culture.

Hollywood Before Social Media

Long before Instagram, TikTok and TMZ, the Chinese Theatre was one of the places to see Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Movie premieres brought crowds, photographers and reporters to Hollywood Boulevard. Celebrities arrived in glamorous cars, fans waited behind barriers and every appearance could become tomorrow’s headline.

In many ways, this was Hollywood’s original social media.

And unlike a post that disappears from your feed, these celebrity impressions are still here.

A Piece of Old Hollywood That Survived

The theater has witnessed the Golden Age of Hollywood, the rise of television, changing movie tastes, the decline of grand movie palaces and the arrival of streaming.

It has changed names and undergone renovations, but it remains one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable landmarks.

And here’s a fun historical twist: the famous hand-and-footprint tradition began decades before the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

So the next time you're on Hollywood Boulevard, don't just look at the stars on the sidewalk.

Look down.

Those handprints and footprints are a little piece of Hollywood history, complete with glamour, ego, accidents, comedy, celebrity gossip and more than a century of stories literally set in stone.

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre isn't just where Hollywood celebrated its stars.

It’s where Hollywood left its fingerprints.

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Forget the perfect family photo.

Give me the loud house, the inside jokes, somebody asking, “What are we eating?” for the third time, and the family member who always shows up late but brings dessert.

Those are the moments you remember.

Put the phones down for a little while. Laugh too loud. Eat something good. Call somebody you love.

Because at the end of the day, "family is the wealth you can’t put a price tag on.

Happy Weekend!
Go make some memories.

Is your savings account doing enough for you?

If you’re in your 20s, 30s or 40s and trying to get your financial life together, you may have heard the term **high yield savings account**.

So what is it?

A high yield savings account, or HYSA, is a savings account that generally pays more interest than a traditional savings account.

Think of it this way:

You’re already putting money aside.

Why not explore whether your savings can earn more while it sits there?

Maybe you’re building:

⏺An emergency fund
⏺A down payment
⏺A wedding fund
⏺A car fund
⏺A “life happens” fund

You don't have to start with thousands of dollars.

Start with what you can.

$50 a paycheck.

$100 a month.

Whatever fits your budget.

Then let consistency do some of the heavy lifting.

Just remember, a high yield savings account isn't the same thing as investing. The purpose is generally to keep your savings relatively accessible while earning interest. Rates can change, so compare the rate, fees, account requirements and FDIC insurance status before opening an account.

And here's the part I really want young adults and couples to think about:

Building wealth isn't only about how much money you make. It's also about what you do with the money you already have.

You don't have to have a six-figure salary to start making smarter moves.

Sometimes the first step is simply asking:

“Is my money working as hard as I am?”

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE RICH TO START BUILDING WEALTH.

Nobody in your family handed you a roadmap.

Maybe no one taught you about investing.

Maybe homeownership felt out of reach.

Maybe you’re the first person in your family seriously thinking about retirement, investing, owning a business or creating something to leave your children.

That’s okay.

You can start with what you have.

Build an emergency fund.

Pay down high-interest debt.

Invest consistently.

Buy assets when you can.

Resist the pressure to spend every raise trying to look like you’ve “made it.”

And learn the difference between income and wealth.

Because making more money doesn't automatically mean you're building wealth.

Sometimes wealth building looks pretty ordinary.

A retirement contribution every paycheck.

A growing savings account.

A credit card balance finally going down.

Equity in a home.

An investment account you started with $50 a month.

The numbers may not look impressive in the beginning.

But,consistency has a way of turning small steps into something bigger.

You may not have inherited money.

You may be the person your family is counting on to start something different.

And that is worth building.

Start where you are. Build what you can. Learn along the way.

Your financial story doesn't have to look like the generation before you.
