We are growing! We are thrilled to welcome Megan Jackson to the Unruh & Co team.

Originally from McAllen, Texas, Megan graduated magna cm laude from Texas A&M University with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration. She recently graduated with honors from Oklahoma City University School of Law, where she earned multiple Dean’s List and Faculty Honor Roll distinctions, received three CALI Awards for Excellence, and served as an Academic Fellow for Civil Procedure.

Megan’s faith and family are at the heart of who she is. She is a proud mom to a daughter she welcomed in her third year of law school, and a bonus son. Completing law school with honors while becoming a mother strengthened her commitment to perseverance, hard work, and caring well for families.

What Megan loves most about this work is helping people navigate deeply personal and sometimes overwhelming legal matters. She wants every client to feel heard, cared for, and comfortable asking questions, and to leave the process feeling informed, relieved, and confident about the future.

Megan shares the values at the center of Unruh & Co. Legal: earning trust, listening closely, and treating each client’s concerns with the same care we would want for our own families.

We are thrilled to have her on the team and cannot wait for you to meet her!

Business continuity doesn’t happen by accident. It requires a plan.

I was honored to serve as a panelist for the Small Business Owners Alliance at the Edmond Chamber, where we discussed business continuity and succession planning. These conversations are essential for every business owner:

What happens if you can no longer lead the business?

Who is prepared to step in?

Is there a plan to protect the company, its employees, and the legacy you have worked so hard to build?

Thank you to my fellow panelists, Diana Giles with Skyline IT Management and Sylvia Sterling with ArrowPoint Wealth Advisors, for sharing their valuable insight. Together, we explored how legal, technology, and financial planning work hand in hand to help a business remain strong through both expected transitions and unexpected events.

Thank you to the Edmond Chamber for creating opportunities for local business owners to learn, connect, and plan for the future.

Your life insurance is designed to provide financial support for the people you love, but one beneficiary mistake could create unnecessary complications.

We have recently seen policies naming the policy owner’s estate as the beneficiary. In many cases, that means the life insurance proceeds must pass through probate before they can be distributed.

That may result in:

• Delays for your family

• Additional probate expenses

• Public court proceedings

• Possible exposure to estate creditors

A better approach is generally to name:

• Individuals as your primary beneficiaries

• Backup individuals as your contingent beneficiaries

• Your properly drafted trust, when appropriate

Beneficiary designations should also be reviewed after marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, a death in the family, or the creation of a trust.

Your life insurance beneficiary designation controls where those proceeds go, regardless of what your will says. Make sure it supports the rest of your estate plan.

The backpacks are packed, calendars are filling up, and another school year is underway. As your family settles into a new routine, take a moment to make sure your legal plans have kept up with life.

Do you have:

✓ Guardians named for your minor children?

✓ Current emergency contacts and medical authorizations?

✓ Updated beneficiary designations?

✓ A power of attorney and healthcare directive for a college-aged child?

✓ An estate plan that reflects your family today?

The school supply list may be finished, but your family preparedness checklist matters all year long.

Schedule an estate-planning consultation with Unruh & Co. Legal and start the school year with greater peace of mind.

Mineral interests are real property and should be intentionally addressed in your estate plan. Without proper planning, your family may face:

• Probate in every state where you own minerals

• Delays in royalty payments

• Increasingly divided ownership among heirs

• Missing or outdated ownership records

• Confusion about who should receive future production income

A complete estate plan does more than distribute your bank accounts and home. It should coordinate your mineral deeds, division orders, beneficiary wishes, and long-term plans for managing oil and gas income.

Your minerals may continue producing for generations. Make sure your plan does too.

Contact Unruh & Co. Legal to discuss protecting and transferring your oil and gas interests.

Packing for college usually means shopping for bedding, school supplies, and dorm essentials.

But there's one item that often gets overlooked.

Once your student turns 18, they're legally considered an adult. That means parents generally can't automatically access medical information, make healthcare decisions, or handle financial matters on their behalf.

A Legal College Kit can help bridge that gap with documents like:

✔️ Durable Financial Power of Attorney

✔️ Health Care Power of Attorney

✔️ HIPAA Authorization

No one plans for an emergency, but planning ahead can make one less stressful if it ever happens.

As your student begins this exciting new chapter, give them more than a packed suitcase. Give them the peace of mind that comes with being prepared.

Care Packs & Cocktails was an unforgettable evening of courage, celebration, and generosity.

Tenaciously Teal’s annual fundraiser brought the community together for a beautiful event featuring inspiring cancer survivors walking the runway, an exciting live auction, and an incredible outpouring of support for individuals facing cancer.

We are especially proud of our own Brooke Unruh, Chairwoman of Tenaciously Teal, and the entire team whose leadership and hard work made this meaningful evening possible.

Every dollar raised helps provide care packs, gas and meal assistance, and other practical support to cancer patients throughout their treatment. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, and helped make the evening such a success!

Summer reunions are one of the few times everyone is in the same place.

Instead of waiting for a crisis, consider asking:

* Do Mom and Dad have a will?

* Who has power of attorney?

* Where are important documents kept?

* Does everyone know the family's wishes?

These conversations aren't about expecting the worst, they're about loving your family well.

If you have children under 18, your estate plan is about much more than who receives your assets.

It's about who will raise your children, who will manage their inheritance, and how they'll be cared for if the unexpected happens.

A thoughtful estate plan allows you to make these decisions now instead of leaving them to a court later. Because protecting your children isn't just about preparing for the worst, it’s about loving them enough to have a plan.
