Legal assistant position open.
For immediate placement is a full time position as a legal assistant for Matthew L. Winton. More information about the law practice may be found at
www.wintonlaw.net. The practice has an emphasis in real property and estates transactions and litigation. Prior law or commensurate office experience is a requirement. College degree is not necessarily required. Position requires organization, attention to details, and ability to follow instructions. If you are a person who can figure things out using what you already know, then you will do just fine here. You must be competent in Outlook, Zoom, Word, Acrobat. If you need to check your phone every 10 minutes, this job is not for you. Proficiency with basic accounting skills and software such as Quickbooks preferred. Applicant must be a non-smoker, creative, personable, professional, organized, and a self-motivated worker with a high level of personal integrity. References required. Interview for the position will include a requirement that applicant demonstrate their ability to minimally function in an office environment. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Office environment is supportive and comfortable, and covid cautious. Compensation and benefits are commensurate with the applicant’s skills and value they bring to the firm.

Position Overview. The Office Assistant (OA) is a full-time or part-time assistant in a small law office located in Edmond, Oklahoma. The OA acts as a support position to two attorneys and office staff. Scope of duties and responsibilities may increase, along with compensation, depending on the demonstrated abilities of the particular OA. The OA performs a variety of secretarial and administrative duties for the law firm according to established policies and procedures and maintains positive contact with clients, attorneys, and staff, observing confidentiality of client matters.
The OA candidate will have the following personal and professional qualities:
1. Punctual, business casual dress, and professional demeanor.
2. Non-smoker.
3. Ability to operate calmly and professionally within a discrete environment.
4. Self-motivator and able to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner with moderate oversight.
5. Bachelor of Arts or Science, or commensurate technical degree plus employment experience are preferred.
6. Prior experience within a legal environment is preferred, but alternate experience is acceptable.
7. Prior experience with Quickbooks accounting software.
8. Ability to competently use typical office equipment such as a phone system, computer in Windows operating system and related software, printer/copier/scanner.
9. Ability to read and write the English language in order to proof and perform minor legal editing (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) of routine law office correspondence and legal case matters. Perform non-complex arithmetic calculations on forms and documents and maintain records and filing systems at a level normally acquired through completion of high school or equivalent.
10. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
11. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
12. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by email and telephone with ordinary courtesy and tact.
13. Ability to serve as initial firm contact for clients, opposing counsel, and vendors, exhibiting a hospitable and helpful disposition and demeanor.
Position Duties and Responsibilities. The OA has the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Excellent computer, communication, writing, and personal skills.
2. Prepare correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents from written and oral drafts, and other documents
3. Screen telephone calls, distribute calls to voicemail, and record messages
4. Maintain calendar and deadline reminder systems and utilize master calendar system through Microsoft Outlook
5. Receive clients and visitors, maintain good public relations with clients and observe attorney-client relationship
6. Make appointments for attorneys
7. Process bills, proof billing sheets, and review and edit bills
8. Manage office supplies and order replacements
9. Perform overload typing, filing, photocopying or reception relief as time permits and as requested by other attorneys
10. Appear at the office from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with a fluctuating lunch hour.
