I wrote this years ago and post it following Tornado outbreaks to remind us of who we are as Okies.

Proud Okie

T'was the night of the tornadoes,
None in the house.
Everybody huddled in the cellar,
All in a rouse.
As the wind goes a blowin',
The twisters grind by,
Soundin' like a steam engine,
With its throttle on high.
Families and neighbors,
Sharin' a safe place,
No matter how crowded,
There's always a space.
The silence takes over,
All know it has passed,
Prayers and hugs,
Replace all the gasps.
Damage is certain,
On our Heartland soil,
But proven Strong Okies,
It's time to burn oil.
Taking care of our own,
No matter the risk,
Cleaning it up,
All in a whisk.
Some people may ask,
Why do we stay?
Love, Strength, and Faith,
That's easy to say.

No greater land here on earth.
