Not quite.

A will names a long-term guardian for your kids. It does not say who has legal authority over them in the first 72 hours. It names beneficiaries for your estate. It does not touch your retirement accounts or life insurance. A will does nothing if you are incapacitated rather than gone. And a will does not update itself as your life changes.

If your baby was born on or after January 1, 2025, the federal government has set aside $1,000 for your child. The account is open, and contributions began on July 4, 2026. Most families have not taken the step to claim it yet.

A Trump Account is a federally seeded, tax-advantaged investment account for your child. The government contributes $1,000 for children born in the 2025 to 2028 window. Parents, grandparents, and other family members can contribute up to $5,000 per year on top of that. The funds grow tax advantages for up to 18 years and cannot be touched until the child turns 18.

You got your estate plan done. Your family is protected. And now you’re looking around at the people you love who haven’t.

Your sister keeps saying she’ll get to it eventually. Your best friend, who got married two years ago and still doesn’t have a will. Your parents, who you’re pretty sure have nothing in writing at all.
