A pit bull named Bolo captured hearts at the Hopkinsville Police Department in Kentucky after arriving as a one-day guest from the Christian County Animal Shelter to help promote adoptions. Although he was only supposed to be there briefly for photos and social media, the officers immediately connected with him, especially when he whimpered as he was being put back in his kennel, and decided to adopt him on the spot, giving him a permanent “fur-ever home.”

The department didn’t stop at adoption: during a City Council meeting, Bolo was officially sworn in as the first-ever “Paw-trol Officer,” complete with a ceremonial oath administered by the mayor. The fun and heartwarming event included Bolo putting his paw print on the oath, and the police department shared that they’re excited to watch his journey in his new role supporting the community.
