Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey The HBA-NJ is a very active bar association. The General Membership meets twice a year — in May and in September (the election nominations meeting).

With a membership that consists of hundreds of Hispanic attorneys (in private, corporate, government, and public interest positions), judges, law professors, and law students, we are truly the voice of New Jersey’s Hispanic legal community. In addition to its many initiatives, programs, and public advocacy activities, the HBA-NJ cooperates with other Hispanic bar organizations, with other Hispanic community, business, civic, charitable and cultural organizations, as well as with other legal organizations, in furtherance of the aforementioned purposes. The Association consists of six officers, a general counsel, a press secretary, eleven regional trustees, four at-large trustees, three law student representatives from the three New Jersey area law schools, and an executive assistant. The Board of Trustees meets the first Wednesday of every month at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Our goal is to foster a more diverse legal landscape and to address the many issues that affect the Hispanic community in New Jersey. Each year, our team of dedicated volunteer attorneys — the HBA-NJ Board of Trustees — works hard to develop programming of interest to our membership. Our annual signature events include the:

(1) Scholarship Gala and Dinner Dance;

(2) Women’s Leadership Conference;

(3) Sun, Surf, and Seminars (CLE) Conference in the Caribbean;

(4) Law Student Mentorship and Training Program;

(5) Diverse Summer Associate Mixer;

(6) Holiday Party, Fundraiser and Toy Drive to benefit needy children; and

(7) our newly added Corporate Counsel Roundtable Lecture Series, now in its 4th year. We also have a number of other events including networking mixers at locations throughout the State of New Jersey. The HBANJ is committed to making a difference, for instance, we enjoy a very active Public Policy Committee — charged with addressing issues important to the Hispanic Community, such as immigration reform and related issues. We also have a Judicial and Prosecutorial Committee –charged with vetting and promoting the selection of Hispanic judges and prosecutors throughout the State. Most recently, we have created a Executive Appointments Committee, which will vet and promote the selection and appointment of Hispanics to positions in the executive branch and to the nearly 600 boards and commissions in the State of New Jersey. Finally, the HBA-NJ is extremely proud of its Young Lawyers Division (YLD) launched in the Fall 2009. The HBA-NJ is committed to advancing the goals and interests of all of its members and believes that the YLD is yet another initiative designed to meet that goal.
