Happy October everyone. I have been asked by several people about proof of insurance requirements for registration on a newly purchased motorcycle. I have just received an answer from my agent contact. If you purchase a motorcycle, you must show proof on insurance. This proof can consist of your insurance card from an already owned motorcycle or your vehicle insurance card ONLY IF YOU HAVE DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED BY YOUR INSURANCE AGENT STATING THAT YOUR POLICY WILL EXTEND TO A RECENTLY PURCHASED MOTORCYCLE. The best thing to do if your are purchasing a motorcycle for the first time, is to contact your insurance company to see if your auto policy will cover a newly purchased motorcycle. If your auto policy will not extend to a new purchase for a motorcycle, you will need to get proof of insurance on a motorcycle. If your policy will extend to a new motorcycle purchase, have your insurance company send you documentation stating the new motorcycle will be covered. I hope this helps.
