I represent people who have been condemned by the government as criminals. As a criminal defense attorney, I fight every day for the freedom of my clients. It is my utmost responsibility to stand by my clients and defend them when they may be facing one of the worst situations in their lives, being charged with a crime. I spend many late nights, early mornings, and weekends diligently working to make sure I am prepared to be an absolute zealous advocate for my clients. Being a criminal defense attorney was never the career path I intended, but it chose me for a reason. I knew I wanted to be a lawyer for as long as I can remember, but never a criminal defense lawyer. My first year of law school I actually said “I will never practice criminal law.” Famous last words. Through some unexpected opportunities, I got the chance to intern with a prosecuting attorney’s office during law school. Instantly, I loved the courtroom, I loved litigation and I loved criminal law. I spent the first half of my career as a prosecutor. Some lawyers rarely see the inside of a courtroom, let alone an actual jury trial. I have spent my career in court. As a prosecutor, I began to see fundamental flaws in the criminal justice system. Admittedly, flaws I had previously heard about but didn’t believe existed. I knew then that I could no longer help enforce a system that imprisoned people instead of addressing mental health and substance abuse issues; a system that was impossibly ill-equipped to see people as human beings with all different backgrounds and struggles. So I decided I would defend those people. Every day I strive to make sure that my client’s rights are protected and that they know as their lawyer I will stand by their side, protect them against the power of the government and the condemnation of the public. I will ensure they have a fighter in their corner.
