I don't agree with a lot that comes from Chief Justice Newby, but I gotta say, he got this one right!
There may not be a better choice in NC for this position!
I am excited to see how this new program works, and hopefully it will ease the calendaring gridlock that is such a problem for family cases.

NC courts and state offices are open today (unless the individual entity has chosen otherwise) because the NC General Assembly has failed to recognize Juneteenth as an official state holiday.
Juneteenth is the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed that they were free under the law, about two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Today we honor those who suffered, endured, and fought their way to freedom. But we do not honor that history enough to close state offices and courts in North Carolina.
Millions of people whose names we will never know were brutalized, enslaved, r***d, torn from their families, and denied their humanity for centuries.
Race is not a biological truth; it is a social construct created and reinforced to justify sins like slavery, racism, oppression, exploitation, and inequality.
Tell the truth about our past and our present.

The State may not recognize the importance of this day, but Patrick Law, PLLC does. Our office is closed in honor of this.
