About Veneta L. Sydnor, JD
Becoming a lawyer was a calling for me after my brother was sentenced to life. There is an old adage that goes, “A man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client,” but for me, I wanted to create my own adage that goes, “A man who has his sister as his lawyer, has the best advocate money can’t buy.”
For years I experienced the pain of having my brother incarcerated while he fought for and maintained his innocence. The unsuccessful appeals and parole hearings, financial strain, and most importantly the devastating emotional affect it had on our entire family was the catalyst for completing law school and becoming licensed to practice law in two states. I figured if there wasn’t an attorney out there who would listen to my brother and fight for him with everything they had, then I was going to become that attorney.
Today, I am a licensed attorney in North Carolina and Maryland, devoting my career to keeping people out of jail and helping those in jail find a way to recovery and/or re-entry. I am no stranger to the devastating effects a criminal law journey has on families, so I decided to dedicate my life to helping people who have been or are on that same journey.
