Labor Day weekend is a week out, which is exactly the right time to make a plan.
Butterfly Experience | Dunwoody Nature Center
Hundreds of native butterflies in the walk-through tents, plus live music, animal shows, and a Kid's Zone. Tickets are timed and they do sell out, so this is the one to book now.
Aflac Kickoff Game | Saturday, Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Auburn vs. Baylor opens the college football season downtown. Tailgate Town outside the stadium is free to wander even without a ticket.
Fireworks over the lake | Lanier Islands
Fireworks at LandShark Landing Saturday night, live music all weekend, and Rumours ATL playing Fleetwood Mac on Sunday for Concerts for a Cause. Worth the drive up 400.
Concerts by the Springs | Sunday evening, Sandy Springs
R&B, Inc. on the Heritage Amphitheatre lawn. Blanket, picnic basket, done.
Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival | Friday through Sunday, Callaway Gardens
Balloon glow and fireworks over Robin Lake Beach after dark, face painting and caricatures during the day. It's about an hour and a half south, so make a day of it.
Saturday morning markets
Sandy Springs at City Springs, Brookhaven on Fernwood Circle, Roswell at City Hall, and downtown Alpharetta. Peak late summer produce at all four.
One of our favorite things about this pocket of Atlanta is how much there is to do without ever getting on the highway. Save this one so you have it next weekend.
