To Our Clients / A nuestros clientes:

🇺🇸 President Trump has announced, but not fully explained, new widespread enforcement actions. We are starting to hear about more arrests of non-citizens around the country.

Attached to this post is some good advice written by the Immigrant Defense Project. We recommend you read it carefully. In addition you could consider printing one of these printable cards (available here https://www.ilrc.org/red-cards-tarjetas-rojas) and carrying it with you

Bottom line:
• ICE and other agencies will be making more arrests now than they did under President Biden.
• You should make a plan with your loved ones in case you are arrested for immigration.
• You should avoid contact with Immigration – talk to your lawyer before applying for anything with immigration or traveling -- but you must continue to attend all scheduled Court and ICE and ISAP appointments.
• You should continue to avoid breaking any law (including avoiding driving without a license).
• If you or a family member are contacted by ICE or arrested, you should contact us right away. Call our main number at 770-623-8880.

Today we would like to introduce everyone to Attorney Shelby Burnam. If you see her in the office, don't be afraid to say hi. Shelby Burnam earned a bachelors degree in anthropology and religion from the University of Georgia in 2014. She spent time volunteering with immigration advocacy programs in Athens, Clarkston, and Atlanta, Georgia before beginning law school. In 2023, Shelby received her Juris Doctor degree from Georgia State University College of Law.

While in law school, she served on the executive board for the GSU Immigration Law Society and was a Justice Initiative fellow. She also interned with Asian Americans Advancing Justice’s impact litigation team and the GSU Immigration Clinic. Through these roles, Shelby was able to effectively advocate for the immigrant community.

Shelby has experience in the following immigration areas: family based petitions, removal defense, humanitarian relief such as U-Visas, Asylum, and VAWA petitions, and has attended USCIS interviews in multiple states. Shelby has been admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Georgia and is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia and of the Georgia/Alabama chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association as well as the National Lawyers Guild.

USCIS has announced a final rule adjusting certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees. This means that certain applications will have an increased cost starting in October 2020.

Today, we announced a final rule adjusting certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees, ensuring that we recover the full costs of services. Reviewed every other year by law, our fees reflect the cost of administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. We’ve also adjusted the fee waiver eligibility, filing requirements for nonimmigrant workers, and our premium processing service. For online filing, the filing fee is reduced by $10 for forms that are electronically available.

“USCIS is required to examine incoming and outgoing expenditures and make adjustments based on that analysis,” said Joseph Edlow, USCIS deputy director for policy. “These overdue adjustments in fees are necessary to efficiently and fairly administer our nation’s lawful immigration system, secure the homeland and protect Americans.”
