DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint Planned This Weekend

Fremont, CA –The Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on April 02, 2021 between the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location. Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol or drugs drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies. Based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Fremont Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to continue to work together to bring an end to these tragedies. Let us introduce you to the Paul Buzzo Act

With all of the fires happening throughout California, we thought it was a good idea to introduce everyone to 23111 of the California Vehicle Code. 23111 VC states;

“No person in any vehicle and no pedestrian shall throw or discharge from or upon any road or highway or adjoining area, public or private, any lighted or nonlighted cigarette, cigar, match, or any flaming or glowing substance. This section shall be known as the Paul Buzzo Act.”

In layman’s terms, it is illegal to the throw your ci******es, lighted or unlighted from your vehicle and unto the roadway or side of the roadway. It is also unlawful for any flaming or glowing substance, such as flicking your ci******es ashes, to come from your vehicle.

Many fires are started yearly from this selfish act. If you are going to smoke while driving, bring something with you to disregard your ci******es and ashes into. Violating this fine results in a mandatory appearance at court, a mandatory 8 hours of community service for first time violators, and a heavy fine.

Friends please take the time to read and help with the pending threat of speed cameras. These are not in our best interest.

You helped us defeat AB666, the Devil's Bill that would have eliminated your rights when fighting a red light camera ticket. Now there is a new threat to your rights.

Assembly Bill 342 would allow speed cameras to be used in California for the first time. And like AB666, the bill makes the vehicle owner responsible for the ticket, not the driver and takes away your right to a trial. While some might view the use of speed cameras as a tool in promoting roadway safety, AB-342 is seriously flawed. It eliminates virtually all current protections afforded to motorists in speed related cases and allows jurisdictions to run speed traps in their cities, ensuring that the program will be used as a revenue generation scheme, not for public safety.

You can read here, http://saferstreetsla.org/1849/legislation-bring-speed-cameras-california/, about all the terrible things that will happen if AB-342 becomes law.

The bill will be heard in the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee on TUESDAY. So we need you to take action RIGHT NOW.

First, sign the petition, http://saferstreetsla.org/, at Safer Streets LA right NOW. We are close to 500 signatures and need to get to at least 1000. When you sign, an email is automatically generated to the bill's author, Assemblymember David Chiu of San Francisco, telling him of your strong opposition to his legislation. The petition will also show the Assemblymembers that will be voting on this bill that there are a huge number of people that oppose the bill. That's critical to convincing them to vote NO.

The next thing we need you to do is call the following Assemblymembers that serve on the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee.

Please reach out to these legislators today. It's even more important if you live in their district but you should call either way.

This should take you no longer than 10 minutes. You need to do this Today!

Here's a sample script: Hi, My name is ###X and I'm calling to let Assemblymember [Last Name] that I oppose AB-342, the speed camera bill that will be heard in the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee on Tuesday. AB-342 is seriously flawed. It eliminates virtually all current protections afforded to motorists in speed related cases and allows jurisdictions to run speed traps in their cities, ensuring that the program will be used as a revenue generation scheme, not for public safety. Please tell Assemblymember [Last Name] to vote NO on AB-342.

You don't have to use the exact wording above. In fact, it's better if you don't and just use your own words but either way, make the calls now! If you live in their district, make sure you tell them that also. If you don't, just say you are a constituent (everyone in California is a constituent) and don't feel comfortable giving personal info.

Once you have completed those calls, call David Chiu's Capitol office at (916) 319-2017 and tell him you don’t appreciate him introducing legislation that takes away your rights!

Thanks for standing up for what's right. You can make a difference. Let your voice be heard.

Jay
