Gio Marterella began working for Project Clean Slate as a Mayoral Fellow in the summer of 2022. In February 2023, he joined the team full-time as PCS’ Law Enforcement Liaison. He helps residents become “expungement-ready” by ensuring their criminal records are accurate. He also acts as the primary point of contact between PCS and the Detroit Police Department.

Gio said working for the City of Detroit is meaningful because he gets to be part of a municipal service that directly improves residents’ quality of life. He especially enjoys participating in community events across the City, with the expungement fair at the Detroit Pistons Training Center being his recent favorite.

Kai Boyd began working for Project Clean Slate as a legal assistant in January 2024. Her passion for helping others led her to join PCS, where she prepares expungement applications, obtains hearing dates and signed orders from the court, and responds to client requests. Of these tasks, she most enjoys sending clients their signed orders from the judge after their hearings and seeing the clients' positive responses. Her favorite PCS moment was the team’s volunteer trip to Focus: Detroit at Commonwealth Community Development Academy, where the team made crafts and shared dinner with students.

Tyra Beckwith joined Project Clean Slate in November 2025 as a legal assistant. In her role, she prepares and reviews expungement applications, communicates with courts, schedules hearings, and more.

Tyra loves attending community events with PCS and interacting with Detroiters. Her favorite event was the recent Occupy the Summer Finale, where she enjoyed seeing so many children have a wonderful time!

"My favorite part of working with PCS is helping people turn their lives around," Tyra said. "It makes me happy knowing that I'm changing lives one person at a time."

After joining Project Clean Slate as a lead attorney in 2022, Christina Guirguis spent the past four years helping change the lives of thousands of Detroiters. During her time at PCS, the program expunged 21,073 convictions. Christina supervised staff attorneys, reviewed thousands of clients for eligibility, conducted expungement hearings, and took on countless other responsibilities to help the program and Detroiters move forward.

Now, Christina is beginning an exciting new chapter. She is getting married next month and will be moving to North Carolina, which means it is time to say goodbye to an exceptional member of the PCS team. Christina’s dedication to legal justice has made a lasting impact on the lives of so many Detroiters. Through the countless hours she dedicated to PCS, she helped give clients a fresh start and access life-changing opportunities.

Christina, thank you for everything you have done for PCS and the people of Detroit. Your impact will not be forgotten. We wish you all the best in your marriage, your move, and this exciting next chapter!

Project Clean Slate is excited to welcome Brandon Wilson as its newest Staff Attorney! Born and raised in Detroit, Brandon said he joined PCS to give back to his community by helping people receive second chances.

Brandon earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Michigan State University before receiving his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2022. He first practiced law in Washington, D.C., before deciding to pursue a more impactful career path where he could work directly with individuals instead of corporations.

We're so excited to have Brandon as part of the PCS team!

Last week, PCS' Mayoral Fellows, Madeleine Andrews and Caitlin O'Neill, attended the Mayoral Fellowship Capstone Showcase, where they presented their capstone project.

Their presentation focused on how PCS engages with the youth and increases awareness of the City's expungement program. The presentation highlighted the program's outreach through social media and community events. Currently, 868 PCS clients are between the ages of 18 and 26, which demonstrates the program's reach among young adults. The Fellows also developed recommendations to strengthen youth engagement. Their recommendations included implementing text message communication with clients and building partnerships with local universities and trade programs to increase awareness of PCS.
