McCoy Midwest Regional United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). We service a wide range of industries and function as fully integrated team members with each and every client. Our founder, Kelly Burris, has over 28 years of engineering and legal experience. She has a gift for taking care of our clients and becoming fully integrated with their teams.

We are excited to introduce "Meet the Flight Crew: The Faces of Burris Law," a new series inspired by our distinctive fly-to-client service approach. The series highlights the people who shape our firm and deliver the in-person relationships that define Burris Law.

Evan Sotiriou has built his 25-plus-year career on relationships — with colleagues, clients, inventors, engineers, and peers. As he puts it: “I am a people person.”

Born in Singapore and raised in St. Louis since high school, Evan now leads Burris Law’s St. Louis office. His practice focuses on IP counseling and procurement, particularly patent preparation and prosecution, across electrical, software, electromechanical, and mechanical inventions.

“Everyone has a story to tell,” Evan says. “I enjoy listening to them, understanding the technology, strategizing on how to protect their innovation, building a relationship with them, and then partnering with them to continue to grow their business.”

Evan is a proud graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. Outside the office, he is a husband, father of four, avid golfer, and bowler with a high score of 297.

Did you know the Juneteenth flag tells a story with every part of its design carrying a special meaning?

Created in 1997 by Ben Haith, founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration Foundation, the flag has red, white, and blue colors that echo the American flag. Those colors recognize that formerly enslaved people and their descendants are, and always have been, Americans. The star represents Texas, where the last enslaved people were informed of their freedom in 1865. The starburst symbolizes a new beginning, and the arc reflects a new horizon of promise and opportunity.

Today, Burris Law joins communities across our country in honoring Juneteenth — a day of reflection on and celebration of freedom and equality.

We are especially proud to celebrate here in Detroit, where the Juneteenth Parade & Celebration is taking place today in Midtown, bringing the community together to honor Black history, culture, and resilience.
