What is WRONG with our Iowa Republican legislature?
Before you answer...the Republicans have proposed legislation that would AUTOMATICALLY admit any "Legislator OR Staff" into the practice of Law (aka become a lawyer in the State of Iowa) after 10 years of service in the Iowa State Legislature! No college requirement, no law school requirement, no bar exam requirement...just 10 years in the legislature and BAM you are a lawyer that can now practice law in the State of Iowa and represent clients!
The second proposed legislation is that a person can sit for the bar exam without any high school, Undergraduate college, or law schooling and if they pass, BOOM, you are a lawyer in the State of Iowa ready to practice!
What The Actual F #!!!
SF 2171 – Alternative Pathway to Law Licensure for Legislators:
Would create an alternative pathway to licensure allowing individuals with ten years of experience as members of the Iowa Legislature or as legislative branch researchers to qualify for admission to practice law without attending law school.
HF 2246 (formerly HSB 546) – Attorney Licensing, CLE, and Bar Exam Eligibility: Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school is not required to sit for the Iowa bar examination, representing a significant proposed change to attorney licensing and bar-exam eligibility standards.
