Cycling Colorado National Monument’s Rim Rock Drive is a journey that will enchant you with every twisting turn, tunnel, ascent, and decent along the vast desert plateau, cliffs, and red rock formations.

This 80 mile route with 3600 feet elevation gain starts in Palisade, Colorado, and takes you along the Fruit and Wine Byway and the Colorado River to Grand Junction where you will enter Colorado National Monument. The ascent from the entrance takes you up and up into the pinyon and juniper forest of the Colorado Plateau. The views from Rim Rock Drive are indeed endless!

After you’ve worked your way up to the top there is a sense of calmness about the surrounding environment and geologic features that can hit you in your soul. It has a spiritual feeling that is meditative.

Desert bighorn sheep inhabit the park and can be seen on the cliffs and by the road. Front and rear bike lights are required in the park because there are several dark tunnels on the route. As you approach the end of Rim Rock Drive you will dive down hairpin turns into Fruita for the return back to Palisade along the Colorado River to complete and epic day of Colorado cycling at its best.

Enjoy and ride safe!

I ❤️ 🚲 Colorado. From Denver’s skyline to the Boulder Flatirons, Colorado offers a vast array of beautiful and challenging rides for bicyclists that make every ride different.

Like Colorado’s terrain, bicycle and brain injury cases are vastly complex, each case involving its own unique set of medical, engineering, and legal challenges.

As a Colorado attorney and avid cyclist, Attorney Dan D’Angelo knows the dangers cyclists face on the road and in the courtroom. Since 2009, Dan has helped Colorado bike and brain injury survivors navigate the road to recovery after serious injuries from car crashes to the sale of defective and unsafe bicycles by businesses that place profits over safety.

Riding through the vineyards and orchards of the Grand Valley in Palisade, Colorado is truly a slice of heaven.

This 40 mile ride with a gentle 1k feet of elevation gain starts in downtown historic Palisade, Colorado, and takes you along the Fruit and Wine Byway out toward Grand Junction. You will loop over the Colorado River and start your return back along the Riverfront Trail and the Grand Valley Canal.

The contrasting lushness of the green orchards and vineyards nestled in the valley and the gray sandstone cliffs and mesas high above is a demonstration of the natural and human power that has shaped the valley. Tectonic uplifting raised the cliffs and mesas and the Colorado River below carved out the valley over millennia. In the 1880’s famers harnessed the power of the Colorado River to irrigate the fertile valley floor. There are over 30 vineyards and wineries and 1,000+ acres of orchards and farms that grow peach, cherry, apricot, pear, apple, corn, hay, alfalfa, lavender, and vegetables.

Riding along on a scorching 95+ degree August afternoon, when the orchards are irrigated by flooding the trenches dug in the ground, feels like someone turned on the AC! This ride is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace with friends. There are too many amazing views, produce stands, pie shops, markets, and wineries to stop at along the way to not taste the freshness cultivated by the many hardworking artisans who work the land. Be sure to bring a bag to carry a bottle or two home.

Enjoy and ride safe!

I ❤️Colorado road cycling 🚲 because Colorado roads and trails are unlike anywhere else. So is Colorado’s legal landscape when it comes to bicycle and brain injury cases.

As a Colorado lawyer and avid cyclist, I’ve advocated for Colorado bike and brain injury survivors since 2009. I know how to navigate Colorado roads and legal terrain too. It takes a Coloradan to truly understand what Colorado cyclists face and need when injured. I’ve lived in Colorado 25+ years, went to law school here, my family is here, and like many, I ride Colorado roads regularly. I built Bike Brain Law for Colorado. The Colorado Trail spans 567 miles from Denver to Durango and consists of 33 segments. This route includes Segment 1: Waterton Canyon to South Platte River.

Tackling Segment 1 of The Colorado Trail has gravel, flowing single track, challenging rock gardens, and chunky asphalt over 51 miles and 5,200 feet of climbing.

I rode my gravel bike with 45 mm Vittoria Dry tires, a 40T 1x with 10-54 rear cassette. I don’t mind some “hike a bike” (miles 9-11) because I prefer a faster bike and tires on the gravel and road.

There is no water until you get to the Pleasant Park School at mile 33 after the climb out of Foxton Road. Water, cookies, and gatorade are sometimes stocked at the school. Bring a cash donation or use the public water fountain.

Water scarcity was on my mind a lot during this ride. I rode this route in early August on a hazy day wild fire smoke from Utah and Washington. Colorado is facing a serious drought. You will see burn scars from past wild fires and many browning evergreens. You will pass the Strontium Springs Dam in Waterton Canyon shortly before the start of TCT. The flowing and at times cascading South Platte River even during a drought is a captivating and mesmerizing sight. Then there’s the thirst for hydration from the heat and effort needed to turn the pedals over and over.

A ride like this is an important and necessary reminder how precious water is for our survival in the Rocky Mountain West. We all need to preserve our water.

Denver’s 🌃 14th Street is sometimes referred to as Ambassador Street because of its high density of Downtown Denver visitor or tourist destinations.

The 12 blocks from Market Street to Colfax Avenue connects Civic Center Park with the Colorado State Capitol, the Denver City and County Building, and art museums, to the Colorado Convention Center, hotels, the Denver Center for Performing Arts Complex, and numerous pieces of public art along 14th Street.

The exterior of the Denver City and County Building, is often illuminated in different colors to celebrate and recognize extraordinary events, non-profit awareness initiatives or significant anniversaries, and Denver initiatives. Requests that meet these guidelines can be made by the public.

Numerous billboards light up 14th Street, making 14th Street a very miniature feeling “Times Square.”

From the bright lights of Denver’s City and County Building to the theatre marquees of the DCPA, 14th Street lights up the Denver at night.

Remember to always ride at night with the proper bicycle lights 💡 and reflective ✨ equipment so you are visible 👀 to vehicles and other road users. Colorado requires a front white head lamp 🔦 visible from 500 feet away and reflective material or lighted lamp that make the bicycle visible from 600 feet away from both sides and from the back.

Enjoy and ride safe!
