I’m glad to see that the media has finally picked up on this important mental health issue. We started suing for-profit psychiatric hospitals and a big national psychiatry group for this exact issue almost 5 years ago. We got accused of making this up, that no mental health professional would ever do anything that mean. Well, they do, and we continue to file these suits.

Wow. Follow the money. Some nursing homes are illegally tossing low-paying Medicaid residents into homeless shelters to make way for high-paying COVID patients. The new COVID patients are then spreading the virus to the other residents, so the nursing home responds by bringing in even more COVID patients. Nice way to treat our elderly.

Nursing homes across the country are kicking out old and disabled residents and sending them to homeless shelters and rundown motels.

Seems like a brilliant idea, doesn’t it? Shuffle COVID infected people from hospitals into short-staffed under-funded nursing homes with already existing infection control problems, and then have them share facilities with the most vulnerable segment of the population. “Thanks for storming Normandy Beach, Larry. Now meet your new roommate...Coughy McCovid.”

The practice is drawing strong opposition that such transfers endanger residents of senior homes that are understaffed and ill-equipped to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
