Planning a percentage-of-sales campaign with a partnering business? A message such as “a portion of every purchase supports our nonprofit” may introduce charitable solicitation or commercial co-venture requirements, depending on where the promotion runs.

Your fundraising campaign wraps up, so you think you’re done with solicitation registration in a particular state. Be careful! This line of thinking could compromise your compliance. Ghosting a state regulatory agency (allowing your registration to simply “expire”) does *not* get you off the hook. Depending on the state, if you want to get out of registration obligations you’ll often need to file a formal withdrawal or final report.
