The association also assists in the continuing legal education & training of trial lawyers & provides social, recreational, health & economic benefits. Over the years, CTLA members have

been active as volunteers throughout the state helping with speaker bureaus, pro bono projects, community service projects & teaching the People’s Law School through Colorado Free University.

Private equity is trying to enter the legal market in Colorado, but its goal is to generate more profit for their investors, not to protect Coloradans. That creates a conflict between what is best for the client and what is most profitable.

HB 1421 reinforces ethical standards by prohibiting non-lawyer ownership of law firms that could compromise a lawyer’s independent professional judgment. Legal advice in Colorado should serve clients, not private equity firms.
