Custody & Child Tax Credit--Just because you have custody of your children doesn’t automatically mean you get the Child Tax Credit. Here are 3 things to know 👇

1️⃣ The IRS doesn’t track custody: The government doesn’t know who has custody. Whoever claims the child on their tax return gets the credit—based on what’s filed.
2️⃣ Divorce agreements matter: Even if you have custody, a divorce decree can assign the Child Tax Credit to the other parent. This must be reflected correctly on your return—or it will be rejected.
3️⃣ Never assume the other parent won’t claim it: Even if you haven’t seen your ex in years, double-claiming triggers IRS audits for both parents. Confirm who’s claiming the credit before filing.

Many athletes don't realize that not every sports contract is designed to fully protect their interests. Here are three things you should know:

1️⃣ NIL Restrictions - Some contracts can limit future sponsorship and NIL opportunities.
2️⃣ Unclear Terms - Vague language can lead to disputes over rights and obligations.
3️⃣ Eligibility Risks - Signing without legal review may affect eligibility, transfers, or finances.

Before signing any sports contract, make sure you understand what you're agreeing to. A careful review today can help prevent costly issues tomorrow.

Many people don't realize that text messages can become evidence in a divorce or custody case. Here are three things you should know:

1️⃣ Angry or emotional texts can be taken out of context and potentially harm your case.
2️⃣ Judges often review communications between parties when making decisions about family law matters.
3️⃣ Before hitting send, consider how your message may be interpreted by a judge, attorney, or other third party.

If you're going through a divorce or custody dispute, keeping your communications respectful, brief, and professional can help protect your interests and support your case.

🗞️ Thinking about getting a prenup? Here are 3 things you need to be careful about:

1️⃣ Full financial disclosure is required – Both parties must fully disclose all assets and debts, or the agreement may not hold up.
2️⃣ Separate lawyers are a must – Each person should have their own attorney. Period. End of story.
3️⃣ It won’t cover your kids – Prenups don’t determine child-related issues; custody and support are decided at the time of divorce.

Many people assume they're automatically responsible for every tax debt on a joint return—but that isn't always the case. Here are three things to know about Innocent Spouse Relief:

1️⃣ Innocent Spouse Relief is an IRS program that may relieve one spouse from certain tax liabilities incurred by the other spouse.
2️⃣ Approval is not automatic — the IRS applies strict requirements and carefully evaluates each request.
3️⃣ You generally must show that you did not know, and had no reason to know, about the income, errors, or tax issues that created the liability.

If you're facing divorce or tax-related concerns, understanding Innocent Spouse Relief may help you better understand your rights and potential options.
