We're thrilled to introduce a new member of the Zalessky Law team! Abbie Swanson comes to ZLG as a Summer Extern and is a third-year law student at the University of Denver. She is passionate about estate planning and enjoys helping individuals and families preserve their legacies through thoughtful, practical preparation. Abbie is a Colorado native who grew up on the Western Slope. Outside of law school, Abbie enjoys playing mahjong, mountain biking, and spending time with her cat and dog.

Sharing a statement from the Colorado LGBTQ+ Bar Association: "Yesterday's decision from the United States Supreme Court in West Virginia v. B.P.J., addressing the participation of transgender student-athletes in school sports, is a significant moment for our community. The Colorado LGBTQ+ Bar Association remains unwavering in its commitment to advancing the rights, dignity, and full inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals, including our transgender community members . . . Throughout our community’s history, meaningful progress has never depended on a single court decision. It has been driven by courageous advocates, engaged communities, thoughtful dialogue, and a shared commitment to ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect under the law. That work continues today, and it will continue tomorrow. As lawyers, judges, law students, and allies, we each have a role to play. This weekend, is taking over downtown and bringing the party to 16th Street! Since 1974, Denver Pride has created a space where the LGBTQ+ community, allies, families, and local businesses come together for a day of joy, celebration, and protest. The party kicks off at 10am this Sunday. See you there!

Weeks after the Civil War and two months after President Lincoln's assassination, Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX and freed the remaining enslaved people. The date they arrived — June 19, 1865 — is now remembered as the first "Juneteenth", Freedom Day. In 2021, President Biden created the federal holiday for Freedom Day. The celebration is bittersweet - joyous that slavery had ended, yet sorrowful that full citizenship for Black people took so long to fully realize. At ZLG, we celebrate the continuing fight for freedom, equity and justice for all Americans and honor the people who have been struggling for years to make America live up to its promise.

On Women Veterans Day, we at ZLG honor the strength, service, and sacrifice of the women who’ve worn the uniform. This Women Veterans Recognition Day also commemorates the 78th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act—the moment women earned a permanent place in the U.S. military. We salute all women veterans, past, present and future, and thank you for your service to our country. .
