That whole stretch along the Chesapeake has a quiet beauty to it, and Mathews seems to wear its history without trying too hard. Old buildings, working waterfront feel, and that easy pace you only get in a place that knows exactly what it is.

It brings back the kind of summer days when a drive meant taking the long way just to see what was around the next bend. I’ve always liked towns that leave room to breathe.
