I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected for the second year for recognition in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America, this time in the 2027 edition for Commercial Litigation.

This recognition is especially meaningful to me because selections are based on peer review and evaluations from other attorneys in the legal community. According to Best Lawyers, approximately 2% of early-career attorneys in the United States receive this recognition.

I’m incredibly grateful to the colleagues, clients, mentors, friends, and family who continue to support me and trust me with work that I care so much about.

Very thankful for the recognition and for the opportunity to continue doing work I genuinely enjoy.

Kinda chic to be talking about ramping up the aggression in a litigation file while standing in your pink office surrounded by plants and propagating beauties.

I am incredibly grateful for this thoughtful review. Knowing that my clients felt heard, protected, and supported throughout the process means more to me than I can adequately express.

It is truly a privilege to advocate for my clients and help them navigate difficult and overwhelming circumstances. Thank you for trusting me and for taking the time to share these kind words.

In recognition of Juneteenth, I have shared a brief article from the National Museum of African American History and Culture that highlights the history and significance of this important day.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. Because Texas remained under Confederate control during much of the Civil War, many enslaved individuals did not learn of or experience their freedom until that date. Today, Juneteenth is celebrated as a day recognizing the end of slavery in the United States and honoring the resilience, achievements, and contributions of African Americans.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the museum, I highly recommend it. I was fortunate enough to spend a day there during one of my internships in Washington, D.C., and it was an incredible experience!

Juneteenth is an often overlooked event in our nation’s history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

🎶 "up here at Ashley…"

If you know, you know.

For those who don't, from what I can gather, a guy who worked at an Ashley Furniture store in Memphis started making freestyle rap videos inside the store, basically telling people to come shop. It doesn't seem like anyone at Ashley asked him to do it. He just thought it would be fun. The videos went viral, and from what's out there, corporate's response was to tell him to take them down. He didn't, and he was let go.

As an attorney who handles employment matters, this one is a good reminder of something that comes up with clients more than people might think. Work and social media don't mix as casually as we treat them. Even when something feels harmless, or actually helpful, employers still care about who's speaking for the company, what's being said, and whether anyone signed off on it. Most policies give them a lot of room to decide that for themselves.

Illinois is an at-will state, which means an employer can let someone go for almost any reason, or no reason at all, as long as the reason isn't an illegal one. That surprises people. There's this assumption that if you're doing something positive, or something that's clearly benefitting the company, you're protected. You're usually not.

I'm not going to weigh in on his specific situation because none of us know the full story, and these things almost always come down to facts you can't see from the outside. But the bigger takeaway is worth sitting with. If your job has a social media policy, read it. If you're not sure whether something is okay to post, ask before you post it, not after it goes viral.

Plot twist though, another store already scooped him up and he's been posting about it.

Meanwhile I've been humming "up here at Ashley" for three days straight.
