Throwback Thursday to the kid with his bike in this photo.

Little Kendrick McWilliams didn't know that he was going to go to law school, and build a career representing injured cyclists and their families.

What started with a practical problem at the Cherry Blossom Festival has grown into better bike parking at schools, stronger standards, and now a citywide investment in nearly 200 new racks.

Dear Ken,

It’s been a year. The cycling community has kept moving, Ken — the way you'd want it to. It's gotten a little louder, a little friendlier, a little more determined — like everyone quietly agreed to ride the way you always rode: generous, unhurried, glad to have company.

The Atlanta Cycling Fest was a success again, and Atlanta Streets Alive is still going strong. The Athens Twilight Crit was so good — we watched the pro race with Henry Zuver and talked about you the whole time. It rained really hard right before the Ride of Silence, but people came out anyway. So many of them were there for you.

The Atlanta Bike Bus movement is exploding, and it's cool to watch the next generation of cyclists ride to school. Group rides keep growing all over metro Atlanta, and the social intown rides are still vibrant and so much fun. Bonafide Riders is doing an amazing job using their club to spread awareness about sharing the road. The Bike Law GA CX team is crushing it, and their race kits carry your initials on them.

Your favorite bike/coffee shop, Guild + Journeyman, continues to build community. MACC's One Love Century is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and we plan to be there. It would take several pages to catch you up properly on the latest with the bike community and tell you all the inspiring stories happening all over Georgia.

We've been busy at Hagen Rosskopf/Bike Law GA too. Bruce is teaching our Bike Law 101 clinics for riding clubs and for law enforcement every month. Our basement is still overflowing with donated bikes for FB4K. Maria is planning a bike commute trip from CO to our office in Decatur. We have several interesting projects in the works that you would’ve enjoyed.

Most importantly, our team is working hard on so many cases for injured cyclists and their families. We worked on your case — it was emotionally tough, but it was an honor to do for you what you did for so many cyclists who were blamed for their crashes.

Linda placed some beautiful pots with flowers at your memorial ghost bike yesterday. Drivers are no less angry or distracted than they were a year ago. The roads haven't gotten any safer on their own — you knew that better than anyone, and you'd be the first to tell us the work will never be finished.

We miss you. We're still riding, still fighting for the same three feet of road you always said mattered.

With love,

Your friends and work fam at Hagen Rosskopf/Bike Law GA
