From “Melting Pot” to a “Mosaic” or “Salad Bowl” Immigration Concept!
It has often been said that America is a “melting pot”: Immigrants came to America from around the world, and while they may have had different political, social, and ethnic backgrounds and views, they were considered unified by a singular American identity.
President Theodore Roosevelt once said: “ We Americans are children of the crucible.”
This concept saw immigrants not just as coexisting but as fusing into a single culture, one that could be considered distinctly American.
This didn’t last long; some sociologists, among others, have challenged the melting pot concept, arguing that immigrant groups have not fully integrated into American culture. Instead, they maintained cultural and social identities across generations.
Eventually, there was a new concept - “Salad Bowl” - which describes America as a heterogeneous society in which people coexist while retaining at least some of the unique characteristics of their traditional cultures!
Whatever the case is, there have been a lot of changes in immigration laws and policies throughout the past years: 1924, 1952, 1963, etc.
Now, immigration policy is to freeze entry to the United States for immigrants from 75 countries.
The big question is… what happened to the “Melting Pot”? Or even the “Salad Bowl”?
Why has the Government now decided to perform such an unprecedented freeze?
" (Melting Pot)
(Salad Bowl)
See less

The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about 350,000 Haitians and over 6,000 Syrians, clearing the way for potential deportation and loss of work authorization for those protected under the program!
