In Michigan, holding your phone while driving is against the law. No texting, no scrolling, no holding it for a call.

Here’s what most people don’t know: even a first offense goes on your driving record. That’s something your insurance company can see.

Paying the ticket is admitting responsibility. Before you do, talk to us. We handle these all the time, and we can help!

Child support orders in Michigan are not always permanent. When circumstances substantially change, you may be able to request a modification.

A change in income, employment, parenting time, custody, or other circumstances may justify reviewing your current child support obligation.

Whether you are paying or receiving child support, waiting too long to seek a modification can have financial consequences.

At Mourad Law, we help parents understand their rights and navigate the child support modification process.

You have the right to remain silent. Use it.

“I’ll just explain my side and clear this up” is how innocent people talk themselves into charges. Police aren’t required to tell you the truth during questioning, and anything you say gets filtered through the goal of building a case, not helping you.

Never talk to the police without a lawyer. Not to explain. Not to cooperate. Not “just this once.”

A successful green card interview starts with being prepared.

Bring your original documents, any updated evidence that supports your case, and most importantly, always answer truthfully. Never lie or provide false information to a USCIS officer.

The right preparation can make all the difference. Our office provides interview preparation so you know what to expect and can walk into your interview with confidence.

Thinking about getting married? A prenuptial agreement isn’t about planning for divorce-it’s about protecting both parties, setting clear expectations, and starting your marriage with transparency.

STOP 🛑 transferring marital property to family and friends before filing for divorce.

I see this mistake far too often. People assume that putting a house, vehicle, bank account, or other asset in someone else’s name will keep it out of the divorce.

It won’t.

If the court determines that the transfer was made to conceal assets or deprive your spouse of their equitable share, it may be deemed a fraudulent transfer. The consequences can be significant:

• You could lose the property altogether.
• The court could award the innocent spouse a larger share of the marital estate.
• You could be ordered to pay your spouse’s attorney fees and costs.

Attempting to hide assets rarely ends well. Before making any major financial decisions during a divorce, consult with an experienced family law attorney.

If you received your green card through marriage and had been married for less than two years at the time of approval, you were likely issued a conditional green card, which is different from a standard 10-year green card.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that a divorce automatically means you lose your immigration status. That is not always true.

In many cases, individuals may still be eligible to remove the conditions on their green card even after a divorce. What matters most to USCIS is whether the marriage was entered into in good faith and supported by the proper evidence.

Understanding the process and your rights can make all the difference.

Heads up, Michigan gun owners: expect law enforcement to be paying close attention to fi***rm violations this summer. Traffic stops and routine encounters can quickly turn into weapon charges if you are carrying concealed without a valid CPL.

Many people legally own fi***rms but do not realize that carrying a pistol concealed on your person or in your vehicle without a CPL can still lead to arrest and criminal charges.

Custody exchanges can turn stressful quickly. That’s why I always recommend conducting them at a police station 🚔. There are cameras, officers nearby, and if something goes wrong, a report can be made immediately.

Protect yourself and protect your child.
