The U.S. State Department has temporarily paused and rescheduled immigrant visa interviews worldwide to conduct in-depth training for consular officers.

- Worldwide Pause: U.S. embassies and consulates globally are adjusting or postponing scheduled immigrant visa appointments.
- Rescheduling: Applicants with already scheduled interviews have received notices that their appointments are being cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
- Reason Provided: The State Department stated the temporary disruption accommodates a global training initiative for staff. The training focuses on stricter screening and the "public charge" rule to assess whether an applicant might become dependent on U.S. public assistance.
- Timeline: Officials have not provided a specific end date for when all interviews will resume or when affected applicants will receive new appointment times.

We will continue to monitor and post updates as they become available.

Thinking about using a public AI chatbot to brainstorm your legal case or outline defense strategies? Stop typing immediately.
A landmark federal court ruling—United States v. Heppner (S.D.N.Y. 2026)*—confirmed that your interactions with public AI platforms destroy attorney-client privilege. In this case, the court ordered a defendant to hand over his entire conversation history with an AI chatbot directly to federal prosecutors.

Why AI Destroys Your Legal Protection:
• AI is not an attorney: Legal privilege strictly requires a trusting human relationship with a licensed professional bound by fiduciary duties. AI cannot meet this standard.
• No expectation of privacy: Most consumer AI platforms utilize your prompts to train their models and reserve the right to share data with third parties, including government and regulatory authorities.
• The "Third-Party Trap": Sharing case details with an AI chatbot acts just like telling your secrets to a stranger in a public space. It breaks confidentiality and makes everything you typed fully discoverable by opposing counsel.
• Sharing later won't save you: Even if you generate reports using AI to hand over to your lawyer later, you cannot retroactively apply privilege to data that has already been exposed to a third-party server.

Fitting new technology to old doctrine is a perennial challenge for courts. Today, that technology is generative artificial intelligence (AI), and those doctrines now...

New Vetting Process at USCIS Likely Resulting in a “Hold” on Many Adjudications.
On April 27, 2026, immigration attorneys began reporting a nationwide hold on USCIS adjudications, likely tied to a new security vetting process requiring resubmission of fingerprints for many pending cases. Early reports suggest impacts across adjustment of status and asylum cases, though the scope may be broader and could affect most USCIS adjudications.
We will continue to monitor this situation.
