Today is the 70th anniversary of the Social Security disability program, enacted in 1956. (Our attorneys have been helping for 48 of those years!) A great mile-marker in America's care for its neediest. Social Security is the largest public pension program in the world, and we think arguably the most successful anti-poverty program in human history.

A little fun fact: The Social Security Administration follows the common-law approach to counting discrete age, so while the disability program was enacted August 1, 1956, by SSA's own policies the disability program "turns 70" on July 31, 2026.

The Social Security Administration pays some "vocational experts" who testify people can still work because they could work as "dowel inspectors" . . . who allegedly do not have to lift a box of dowels or use any substantial mental capacity. (Credit to everyone who knows what a dowel is!) So we spent Saturday contacting every American -- and a few Canadian -- dowel manufacturer to see what they say. 😁 Get yourself a lawyer who hustles!
