What I learned today that I didn’t know: the 60 day waiting period for divorce does not apply for proven family violence cases. This is good to know for defaults.

Today we read about restraining orders in a divorce. We compared the standing orders in different counties and they don’t contain the same language and they don’t have everything that is authorized by the code. We had mixed opinions on whether they are enforceable by contempt. What do you think? We’ve added sharing practice tips. Some were: start a timeline early on in the case, take one hour a day just for yourself, and make a list each day of what you need to complete.

Family Code Book Club

This group is the brain child of Tamika Jones Abendroth. It began as an effort to support members in seeking board certification in family law. We meet at noon to 1:00 pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
