The event raised more than $133,000, setting a new fundraising record. Proceeds will help support Christ’s Haven’s Residential Program, College & Career Readiness Program, and Family Resource Center.

Their names were included on the Texas Board of Law Examiners’ list of successful examinees following the release of results on October 6.

This achievement marks an important milestone in their legal careers, and we are proud to celebrate the hard work and dedication that brought them to this point.

Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. Partner T. Chase Garrett recently presented to fence company and supply company owners and members of the Texas Section of the American Fence Association on procedures for collecting payment.

During the program, aptly titled “I Built the Fence, Now How Do I Get Paid?”, Chase discussed issues surrounding bill collection and the procedures businesses may encounter when seeking payment for completed work.

The presentation prompted an engaging discussion, with attendees asking numerous questions throughout the program and sharing positive feedback afterward.

Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. was pleased to welcome Ashley Yablon, attorney, whistleblower, and author of Standing Up to China: How a Whistleblower Risked Everything for His Country, to the firm on September 30 for a Lunch & Learn.

Yablon shared the story behind his 2022 memoir, which recounts his experience as general counsel for the U.S. operations of telecommunications company ZTE and his decision to report conduct involving the company’s business with sanctioned countries to U.S. authorities.

His story offered a compelling discussion on corporate ethics, professional responsibility, whistleblowing, and the difficult decisions attorneys can face when legal obligations and business pressures intersect.

Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. Partner Michael Smith recently moderated a fireside chat with U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale of the Sherman Division during a meeting and program hosted by the Judge Paul Brown American Inn of Court at the U.S. District Courthouse in Plano.

The evening brought members of the legal community together for conversation, continuing legal education, and professional connection.

Scheef & Stone, L.L.P. Founding Partner C. John Scheef III will chair Mackrell International’s next Construction Law Practice Group Call on Wednesday, October 7, focused on Construction Damages: Liquidated and Remedial.

Joining John will be Christophe Shammas, Partner at Mackrell International member firm Loopstra Nixon in Toronto, who will lead discussions on liquidated damages in complex construction projects and calculating damages for defective work and delayed remediation.

The session will bring Mackrell International members together for comparative discussion and perspectives from jurisdictions across the network.

John’s participation continues Scheef & Stone’s active involvement with Mackrell International. He and Partner Kate Valent will also represent the firm at the 2026 Mackrell International Americas Business Meeting in St. Louis, November 13–15.
