One out of every 15 people imprisoned across the world is a Black American incarcerated in the United States. Not everyone is treated equally in the criminal justice system. ricans is on probation, on parole, in jail or in prison. Distressingly, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, one in three African-American men can expect to be incarcerated at some point. Black men are incarcerated at nearly five times the rate of white americans. Other races also face injustice or lack of legal representation as well. Going to prison is a major life altering event that creates obstacles and sometimes destroys families. When it comes to drugs and weapons offenses, blacks and latinos receive longer prison sentencing and higher bail. Many offenders sent to prison for drugs and alcohol charges do not get rehabilitated in prison. Prison is the only option to punish them while living in harsh sometimes dangerous conditions. If rich people kid's get in trouble for drugs they go to rehab, poor people kid's get in trouble they go to prison.
