Legal Assistant (Part-Time) – Grimes, Iowa

Brown, Fagen & Rouse is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team in our Grimes office. This position is available due to the retirement of a long-time team member and offers an excellent opportunity to work in a well-established, community-focused law firm.

About Our Firm
Brown, Fagen & Rouse is a three-attorney law firm with a long-standing presence in central Iowa. Our main office has served the Dallas Center community for over 100 years, and our Grimes office has been serving clients for more than 30 years. We are a general practice firm with a focus on transactional work, including real estate, estate planning, probate, business entity formation, and tax preparation.

Position Details
• Location: Grimes, Iowa
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (16 hours per week)
• Status: Part-Time

Key Responsibilities
• Answer and direct incoming phone calls in a professional manner
• Schedule and manage client appointments
• Prepare and format legal documents under attorney direction
• Provide general administrative and legal support as needed

Qualifications
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with word processing and basic office software
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Prior legal or office experience preferred, but not required

Beware of a text message scam that is currently going around Iowa claiming to be from the Iowa DMV and directing you to a text link to pay unpaid parking tickets or toll fees. See below from IDOT about this scam:

Fraudulent text messages appearing to come from the Iowa DOT or “DMV” are targeting recipients with false claims of unpaid traffic violations.

We are delighted (and slightly saddened) to bid farewell to Lisa Freeland Howell as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement!!!

Having been the welcoming, friendly face of our office for nearly 30 years (!!!), her last day was today. The legacy she leaves behind at our law firm and in the Dallas Center community is truly remarkable. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Lisa for her tireless dedication, support, and occasional counseling through the years. You will be missed here, but Randy and the Grandkids are so fortunate for the newfound hours they will have with you!

Update at 10:00 am: MidAmerican doesn’t expect service to be restored until late this afternoon. We are closing our Dallas Center office for the morning and will reassess when power is restored. We apologize for any inconvenience.
