We have filed two lawsuits in Walker County for children that suffered abuse at Camp Mitnick. These children were made to participate by a staff member in a “fight club,” suffered injuries and made to lie to other staff and their families.

Camp Mitnick is a private facility that accepts state money to help troubled youth. These incidents are unacceptable and sadly there are more. Someone must and will be held accountable.

If your child experienced abuse at Camp Mitnick or any other facility call us at 256-734-2023 or go to fandwlaw.com

The Alabama Hands Free Law goes into effect June 1, 2024. Law enforcement officers will be able to issue citations to drivers caught making calls or engaging in texting, internet browsing, video functions, or other activities while holding a cell phone. If ticketed, drivers will face misdemeanor charges, fines, and points on their driving records.
Under the law, drivers can use a single button or a swipe of a finger to answer a call. Alabama's new hands-free law is classified as a secondary offense, meaning that a citation can only be issued if the driver is seen committing another traffic offense.
Here are some tips on how to follow the new hands-free law:
Utilize Hands-Free Technology: Use Bluetooth devices or dashboard mounts to keep the phone accessible yet out of reach.
Plan Ahead: Set GPS navigation and music playlists before driving to minimize distractions while driving.
Silence Notifications: Disable notifications, activate a "do not disturb" setting, or switch the phone to airplane mode to avoid the temptation of checking the phone while driving.
Pull Over if Necessary: If phone usage is unavoidable, drive to a safe location off the road, such as a parking lot, before handling the phone.
Put Your Phone Away: The simplest way to comply with Alabama's hands-free law is to stow the phone in the glove compartment, purse, or backseat. Keeping the phone out of sight ensures that the road remains the primary focus while driving.

Labor Day is the day that we honor the American worker. While most of us will spend the day grilling and analyzing week one of college football, we should take a minute to remember the ones before us who worked hard to build this great country. This man worked for thirty years building the tires that have moved hundreds of thousands of cars millions of miles down the roads. He worked second shift for most of my childhood. I can only remember a few of my ballgames that he was able to make it to. But I can remember even fewer days of work that he missed. Two weeks every summer his factory would shut down and that meant vacation time. It’s what he worked hard for every year and he made sure we had the best of everything for those two weeks. In the summer days he would still wake early to drag me out of bed to help him with one of what seemed to be an endless stream of projects. We would then walk the land before he left for his factory job where he’d give me the day’s assignment. But I knew when that work was done I was free to do what I want until the sunset. He taught me that there is nothing wrong with enjoying life. But get your work done first.
