Trick or Treat Storywalk at Azalea Park 🎃

Thank you to the Wakulla County Public Library and Friends of Wakulla Library for having us out tonight. We handed out a mountain of candy to what felt like every kid in the county, and the costumes were incredible. Witches, wizards, inflatables, pumpkins, skeletons, superheroes — Wakulla showed up.

Events like this are what make this community different. Families walking the path together, neighbors stopping to talk, kids running from tent to tent with their bags getting heavier by the minute. Everybody was friendly, everybody was having a good time, and nobody was in a hurry.

The Friends of the Library do a lot of good work for this county, and tonight was a great example of it. We were glad to be part of it.

Happy Halloween, Wakulla. See you at the next one.

A beautiful October Friday on the Forgotten Coast.

Drove over for an estate consultation in Apalachicola, and it was one of those days that reminds you why we opened this office. The bay crossing in the morning, good conversation with good people, and a stop at Apalachicola Chocolate & Coffee Company before heading back.

One thing came up during the consultation that comes up almost every time: most people genuinely don't know what happens to their property when they die. And that's not their fault. It IS complicated.

Does the house go through probate? Does it matter whose name is on the deed? What happens if there's still a mortgage? What if the kids don't agree? Does having a will actually keep my family out of court? What's this Lady Bird deed everybody's started mentioning?

Those are real questions with real answers, and the answers depend on your specific situation. Florida law is not intuitive here. The default rules surprise almost everybody.

That's the whole job. We take something genuinely complicated and make it simple. You tell us what you want to happen. We tell you what the law will actually do if you don't plan, and what tools get you where you want to go. No jargon, no lecture, no pressure.

A good day in Apalachicola.

Last Thursday I drove over with my assistant Corrine Maro and my friend David F. Harvey to spend the day meeting the people who keep Franklin County running.

We visited with Sheriff A.J. Smith, Mayor Brenda Ash, and the Honorable J. Gordon Shuler, County Court Judge. Every one of them took real time with us, and we're grateful for the welcome.

When you open an office in a community you didn't grow up in, you can either wait for people to come find you or you can go introduce yourself. We chose the second one. You learn more about a place in an afternoon of conversations than you do in a month behind a desk.

We finished at the Owl Cafe, right across the street from our office. If you haven't had the duck fries, fix that.

Thank you to Sheriff Smith, Mayor Ash, and Judge Shuler for the time — and to Franklin County for continuing to make us feel at home!

Sopchoppy Depot Days.

We set up in the park, talked to a lot of good folks, and rolled the Bronco through the car parade alongside everything from a ‘50s convertible to — no joke — a Cybertruck. Sopchoppy contains multitudes.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the tent to say hello, ask a question, or just tell us about your family. Those conversations are the whole reason we show up to these things. We’re not there to sell anybody anything. We’re there because this is how you actually get to know a community.
