A seasoned trial attorney once advised me: always ask your client how you did before the verdict, as their view isn’t swayed by the outcome.

Recently, after wrapping a grueling 14-day bench trial alongside Ed Collins—spread out, not consecutive, as other attorneys might have guessed—I forgot that advice. Our client poured so much into this case: time, prep, financial investment, etc.

Now, we face weeks of waiting for a decision. But after finishing up on the last day, they showered us with compliments for our work, undeterred by the pending outcome. That gratitude? it is something that makes this profession so enjoyable.

In Ohio, Adult protective services agencies receive around 36,000 reports of potential elder abuse each year.

Selling alcohol to someone who is clearly drunk is against the law in most placed and whoever sold more alcohol to them is potentially liable for any injury later caused by the intoxicated person.

Hopefully no one was severely and permanently injured as a result of actions of Jack Callis, the person identified in this video. It appears he was intoxicated when attacking innocent fans of the opposing team after a football game.

In addition to holding this person criminally responsible, his victims may be able to pursue civil claims against their assaulter and those who over served him. Anyone injured deserves to find out the facts of what happened leading up to being assaulted.

Neglecting venerable people is wrong.

But it is evil to find joy in that neglect.

Police say that three employees of Golden Age Nursing Home sexually exploited residents.

If you believe someone has been neglected or is being abused, you can be their voice by contacting law enforcement. Additionally, it will not hurt to contact the state Department of Health and an attorney who will investigate your concerns.

Three women have been charged with conspiracy and elder abuse at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie after Snapchat videos emerged allegedly showing them sexually exploiting residents.

Last Friday, numerous residents in a Northern Kentucky community came home to notice that their home is in an active landslide. Now, they are scrambling to relocate.

Early reports allege an epic failure individually or by a combination of government agencies, contractors, and others that caused the landslide. If true, it appears this was entirely avoidable.

It is unacceptable that, through no fault of their own, the residents should be expected to pay to move, pay for temporary housing, and endure many other complications and burdens.

Morally, the responsible parties should come forward and provide answers to the homeowners, and the community as a whole, as to how this happened. Legally, if what is alleged is true, the responsible parties must make the homeowners whole.

Roughly three dozen residents at the Woodland Hills Condominiums in Southgate are affected.

The NCAA is a business going out of business, thanks to the University of Tennessee and the state of Tennessee.

A day after the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Donde Plowman, informed the NCAA that UT is resolute in protecting the rights of the student-athletes, Tennessee and the Commonwealth of Virginia have sued the NCAA in the Eastern District of Tennessee (Federal Court) alleging NIL restraints by the NCAA are impermissible antitrust violations.

I would not be surprised to see the state of Florida either join in the case or file a separate lawsuit against the NCAA for NIL restrictions resulting in antitrust violations.

I am glad to see Tennessee (both UT and the State) as the torchbearer that destroys the NCAA.

University of Dayton School of Law does a great job preparing students!

I recently had the privilege of judging several rounds, including the simifinals, of the Walter H. Rice Moot Court Competition at my alma mater, UDSL.

Overall, I was blown away by how prepared the students were and how well they handled the pressure of arguing a position before 3 judges they did not know.

I know the Moot Court Team will do well in competitions this year.
