Nouri Law Corporation Our Office assist individuals and families with family law or dissolution and paternity actions incl I practice Immigration and Family law. I understand that.

The most valuable information I can give you, aside from the information you can obtain on my site about the law, is to tell you that when you look for an attorney look into their experience, their integrity and whether you find yourself a good fit with your attorney during your first consultation. It is very important to find a good attorney who also takes the time to understand and relate to you

and your needs. My policy is to not create unrealistic expectations and not to give clients the wrong advice regarding their case. I believe in being honest and acting with integrity, and I would like to attract the same kind of clients to my office. My mission in these areas is:

Immigration

If you are an immigrant or are seeking to immigrate, hiring an attorney with a good reputation and an established working relationship with government agencies is priceless. You need to find an attorney who knows the law and can steer you in the right direction—somebody who stays well informed and is able to navigate your case through the various government agencies. When you have an immigration problem with the federal government it can be frightening. Your life is hanging in the balance, and you need somebody to advocate for you who is truly on your side. It is crucial to hire somebody who has experience in successfully navigating individual cases through various government agencies, is well versed in current laws, and has the ability to deal with complex cases. Immigration law has gone through rapid, substantial changes in recent years, and it continues to change. You need a skilled attorney who is current on the law. I have helped many people to successfully obtain their legal status, and have even appealed their immigration cases when necessary, to successfully obtain multiple waivers for non citizens which allow them to lawfully reside in the United States. I enjoyed helping people to immigrate here in order to be with their families, and to have a chance to be part of the American Dream. I have helped people who have been detained by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to resolve their cases in the very best way possible. Many are unable to enter the US or Canada due to a crime they committed in the past or records created at the border. I greatly enjoyed helping my clients to resolve their obstacles. I will not give you false hopes and expectations. I will give you an accurate assessment of your situation, and I will work to find the very best solution possible for your immigration matter. I am a passionate advocate of human rights, and I am here to help you, if you will let me. Family Law

If you are seeking a family law attorney, retaining a knowledgeable attorney is important. Family law matters are emotionally draining and your attorney should be willing to spend her time listening to you and also avoid filing unnecessary papers to alleviate an angry moment you may have. Resolving the case with less adverse effects to the children and parties should be a top consideration. When you seek to hire an attorney in a family case, chances are that you are dealing with internal conflicts such as anger, resentment, eroded self-confidence, eroded self-esteem, fear, lack of financial stability, and mixed feelings as to whether you are making the right decision. You may be constantly getting advice from well-meaning people who do not understand that this is your experience, not theirs. Being vulnerable is never desired. You need to find an attorney with high ethical standards, who is able to listen to your concerns, to see the big picture, and who has the knowledge, skill and experience to help you come to a resolution that will protect your future. The most important thing is to navigate through your current experience with a sense of peace. Because of my years of experience and training as a litigator, a mediator, and a collaborative attorney in family law cases, I understand that each family situation is different, and requires careful evaluation, and the ability to choose a solution that will protect the interests of those family members who are most vulnerable—the children.

All Green Card processing will be handled by the State Dept except in extraordinary circumstances. All beneficiaries of green card must leave the country to be processed for their green card.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Will Grant Adjustment of Status Only in Extraordinary Circumstances:

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a new policy memo reiterating the fact that, consistent with long-standing immigration law and immigration court decisions, aliens seeking adjustment of status must do so through consular processing via the Department of State outside of the country. Officers are directed to consider all relevant factors and information on a case-by-case basis when determining whether an alien warrants this extraordinary form of relief.

“We’re returning to the original intent of the law to ensure aliens navigate our nation’s immigration system properly. From now on, an alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply, except in extraordinary circumstances. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. When aliens apply from their home country, it reduces the need to find and remove those who decide to slip into the shadows and remain in the U.S. illegally after being denied residency,” said USCIS Spokesman Zach Kahler.

“Nonimmigrants, like students, temporary workers, or people on tourist visas, come to the U.S. for a short time and for a specific purpose. Our system is designed for them to leave when their visit is over. Their visit should not function as the first step in the Green Card process. Following the law allows the majority of these cases to be handled by the State Department at U.S. consular offices abroad and frees up limited USCIS resources to focus on processing other cases that fall under its purview, including visas for victims of violent crime and human trafficking, naturalization applications, and other priorities. The law was written this way for a reason, and despite the fact that it has been ignored for years, following it will help make our system fairer and more efficient.”

For more information, see the policy memo to USCIS immigration officers.

Impact of Child Support Debt on U.S. Passport Eligibility

The State Department, in collaboration with local child support agencies, has implemented new regulations requiring these agencies to report outstanding child support debts. If you owe a significant amount in child support, you may face the loss of your U.S. passport, which would hinder your ability to travel for both business and leisure.

Previously, parents could negotiate payment plans with child support departments to have their passports released. However, the current status of these arrangements has changed under the Trump Administration.

Key points to consider:

• Debt Threshold: The State Department is prioritizing cases where individuals owe over $100,000 in child support, with plans to eventually lower this threshold to $2,500.

• Unclear Future: It is not yet known if there will be additional penalties or charges imposed. Historically State of California added compound interest on delinquent accounts.

This evolving situation is one to watch closely, as the implications for affected individuals could be significant.

If you owe child support and need assistance, the team at Nouri Law Corporation is here to help you navigate your options. Our experienced professionals can provide guidance tailored to your situation, ensuring you understand your rights and responsibilities. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support in addressing your child support needs.

Divorce, Custody and Status Across the Canada & U.S. Border
Date & Time: March 11, 2026 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST + 15 min Q&A

LIVE WEBINAR: March 11, 2026 | 2 PM EST
This session will be held via Zoom (registration information found in the course guide) and will conclude with a Q&A session.
Family breakdown frequently triggers complex immigration consequences for individuals and children who live, work or hold status across the United States and Canada. Divorce, custody disputes, allegations of abuse, criminal charges and financial orders can directly affect lawful status, sponsorship obligations, admissibility and cross-border mobility. Practitioners who fail to account for immigration implications in family proceedings risk exposing clients to removal, inadmissibility or long-term bars.
Both U.S. and Canadian immigration systems contain highly technical provisions that intersect with family law outcomes, including conditional residence, sponsorship breakdown, humanitarian and compassionate relief, VAWA protections, waivers of inadmissibility and criminal rehabilitation. Custody determinations and protection orders may also engage international child abduction principles and border enforcement considerations.
This program provides a comparative, practice-focused examination of immigration consequences arising from family disputes in both jurisdictions. Participants will gain practical tools to identify red flags, structure settlements that protect status, and coordinate cross-border strategy between family and immigration counsel.

Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with UCLA Law students and sharing my experiences in practicing international law, particularly in areas where Family Law and Immigration Law intersect, such as International Child Abduction under the Hague Treaty and the enforcement of foreign judgments.

It was heartwarming to see students from diverse nationalities, embodying the spirit of a borderless world as they learn and prepare to represent individuals from various backgrounds in the field of international law. This experience reaffirmed my belief in the importance of fostering a global community dedicated to justice and understanding.
