Brief Narrative of Incident:

On May 24, 2026, at approximately 1:46 AM, an Officer from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on NY Route 281 near Davinci Drive, in the Town of Cortlandville, for Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. It was determined that the defendant, Nathanael Gill, was operating the vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. Mr. Gill was arrested and transported to the Public Safety Building where he was processed and released on Appearance Tickets. Mr. Gill is scheduled to appear for arraignment in the Town of Cortlandville Court on June 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

The STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.



The Statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign targets St. Patrick's Day, 420 Drug Day, Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th, Labor Day Weekend, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Holiday Season and Super Bowl Weekend.



Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign aim to further reduce the dangers of drunk and impaired driving.

You can help make a difference by having a sober plan - Impaired driving is COMPLETELY preventable - All it takes is a little planning.

Brief Narrative of Incident:

On May 29, 2026 at approximately 10:16 AM, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was called to a location in the Town of Cortlandville, along the Tioughnioga River for report of an unresponsive subject down on the ground. The subject, who is confirmed to be a white male, was found to be deceased. At this time, Investigators do not suspect any foul play or threats to the community. The identity of the male has not been confirmed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Cortland County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Joshua Alexander – (607)753-5335, the Criminal Investigation Division Main Line – (607)758-6151, or the Cortland County 911 Center – (607)753-3311. Tips and information may also be submitted through the Submit-A-Tip feature on the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office website – www.cortlandcountysheriffny.gov

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit, the Cortland County Coroner’s Office, and TLC Ambulance.
