The I-130 form, officially known as the “Petition for Alien Relative,” is used by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to help family members immigrate to the United States. It establishes a qualifying family relationship with the relative who wishes to apply for a green card. Filing this form is the first step in bringing spouses, children, parents, or siblings to the U.S. It does not guarantee a visa but is necessary to start the immigration process.
