13 years ago, I said yes to everything.

Every podcast. Every panel. Every stage.

Back then, I was building my name and looking for every opportunity to get in front of people.

Today, I’m much more selective. Not because I value the opportunities any less, but because I value my time differently.

Early on, saying yes gets you seen. Later, knowing what deserves a yes matters more.

In 5 years, my husband and I want to transition ourselves from visionaries giving direction to visionaries who watch as direction is given. The department I'll be MOST ready to hand off: Marketing.

I've run our marketing for 3-5 years now. But I’ve never considered myself a trained marketer.

I got our firm to where it is through research, conferences, constant questions, and consistent promotion. It's worked way better than I expected when I started.

The success has been a blessing. But I think I've reached the edge of what I can teach myself. I've exhausted every avenue I know how to explore.

What the firm needs next is someone with deeper expertise to advise me—someone who can take this further than I ever could.

That next stage of leadership means stepping out of the room and trusting others to make those calls.

Short answer: the state can step in for a while, but courts look at what's in the best interest of the child first such as grandparents and relatives. It stays that way until one of the parents gets it together or the child is adopted.
