A workplace injury can leave you with questions about medical treatment, lost wages, and what to do next. here are three important things every injured worker should know.
1. What should I do immediately after a work injury?
Report your injury to your supervisor in writing. Seek appropriate medical treatment. Keep copies of medical records and communications. Document what happened, including photos and witness names.
2. How long do I have to report my injury?
In Minnesota, many workplace injuries must be reported within 180 days, but exceptions and other requirements may apply. Don’t wait to report your injury. Delays can put your benefits at risk.
3. What if my employer won't file an injury report?
Your employer generally must file a First Report of Injury after being notified of a work-related injury when required by law. If they refuse, keep written proof that you reported the injury and seek legal guidance.
