Thank you to Professor Sandra (Sandy) Mayson of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School for joining Moritz College of Law for this year’s David H. Bodiker Lecture on Criminal Justice.

Professor Mayson shared her expertise in criminal law and criminal justice reform to Moritz, giving our community the opportunity to learn from and engage with her work.

The David H. Bodiker Lecture honors the legacy of David Bodiker ’63 and his commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of defendants in the criminal justice system. The lecture is made possible through generous donor support, which helps Moritz continue bringing leading voices in law and public policy to campus and advancing meaningful discussion around criminal justice reform.

The experience encouraged students to consider a client’s perspective and explore how lawyers can protect vulnerable clients while preserving their autonomy and dignity.

Congratulations to 2L Phillip HoSang on earning third place in the American Bar Association International Law Section’s 2026 Rule of Law Writing Competition for Law Students!

Phillip was recognized for his essay, “Neither Force Nor Will: Judicial Independence and the Fragility of Legal Constraint,” which will also be published in International Law News.

“I’m deeply grateful to have received third place in the ABA International Law Section’s Rule of Law Writing Competition," said HoSang. "Professor Rudesill’s Lawyers and Democracy’s Defense course played a meaningful role in shaping the ideas I explored in the paper, especially my thinking about judicial independence and the importance of the rule of law. I’m honored by the recognition and excited that the paper will also be published in International Law News.”
