STATEMENT ON "SHELTER IN PLACE PREPAREDNESS:" Today, we sent clients an email to assist them with preparations for a "shelter in place" order. We are reproducing it here in order to help our wider community think through difficult issues that may arise.
"In light of the steps Italy and San Francisco have taken to restrict the free movement of citizens, and in light of the resolute nature of the steps our governor has taken in order to stop the spread of COVID-19, we are advising our clients to take the following steps, NOW. As in, if you have the ability, stop what you are doing right now and take these steps:
FIRST - RIGHT NOW
***make sure that your household has enough food and personal care items for 2 weeks (as grocery delivery services may be a bit backed up)
***refill all prescriptions that you are allowed to refill NOW
SECOND - email my assistant, to let us know the following:
which of your household members (incl children) have pre-existing diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, or lung problems (incl allergic asthma), autoimmune issues, or are immunocompromised
***if your adult household members are allowed to work from home, and if so, for how long;
***if your child(ren) (if applicable) are in daycare, and if so, where
***if anyone in your household has been confirmed as having, or has any symptoms of, COVID-19 (chart attached), and describe the symptoms
***whether anyone in your household is missing vital supplies that they cannot live without for the next 2 weeks
***if you are coparenting, as much of this information you have about the person (usually your ex) whom you are coparenting with, and where your kids are scheduled to be this afternoon/evening through this Friday
We believe that prompt, calm preparedness is necessary right now, and that if Ohio does impose a curfew or broader lockdown, it will be a necessary step to save lives. We realize that parenting plans will present some complex issues during this time, and we are working on how to address these issues as they arise."
Nielsen Law has been conducting all client meetings via telephone and videoconference since March 2nd, and we are well-prepared to continue. Take care, everyone.
