A quick trip out to another one of our beautiful courthouses in Talbot County, Georgia to appear in Juvenile Court this morning. I am often appointed by the court as Guardian ad Litem for the children in Dependency cases. Both cases on the docket today had a happy ending, including one closed by adoption, and one where custody was given to a loving Aunt and Uncle. It always warms my heart to see these children find permanency with a loving family. 💙

Volunteering at the Georgia Legal Services Pro Bono Wills clinic today at the Columbus Public Library. The GLSP attorneys and staff are another level of Amazing!!!

Made my monthly trip to my hometown courthouse for Juvenile Court this morning. I enjoy visiting all of the counties in our circuit, but Harris will always feel like home. 💜

🚌 Here’s your REMINDER: when that STOP arm swings out, it’s not a suggestion, it’s the law!

❓When do you STOP❓

🛑 Two-lane roads: ALL traffic must stop.
🛑 Multi-lane roads WITHOUT a median: All traffic must stop.
⚠️ Roads with a raised MEDIAN or center lane barrier: ONLY traffic following the bus must stop.

👮‍♀️If a police officer issues a ticket in person, you’re facing misdemeanor charges with the following possible penalties:

➡️ Fine of $1,000
➡️ 6 points on your driving record
➡️ Automatic license suspension for drivers under age 21
➡️ Increased insurance premiums

📸 If you received your violation/ticket in the mail from the stop-arm camera:

➡️ Civil penalty of $1,000
➡️ No License Points (First Offense)
➡️ No Initial Insurance Impact
➡️ For a second or subsequent violation within the same jurisdiction, law enforcement can notify your car insurance company, which may impact your rates.
➡️ Ignoring/failing to pay the civil penalty can result in collections activity or issues renewing your vehicle registration.

💲Don’t risk a $1000 FINE for your first offense!

This morning, Michele and I attended the ribbon cutting for the Col. Ralph Puckett Jr. VECTR Workforce Development Center — the Puckett Center — right here in Columbus, GA. Operated by Columbus Technical College, this new facility is going to make a real difference for our community.

The Puckett Center offers technical training and credentialing in high-demand fields like, manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and skilled trades. Open to all local residents, it also provides dedicated transition services and SkillBridge programs for our veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses.

As someone who values giving back to Columbus and supporting the people who serve our country, it was an honor to be part of this celebration. Congratulations to everyone who worked to bring this vision to life!
