He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971 with a B.A. in History. He graduated from University of Mississippi Law School in 1984. Gawyn was admitted to the Mississippi Bar Association in 1984 and the Georgia Bar Association in 1985. Military Background: B52 pilot in Vietnam in 1974. Air Force instructor pilot at Columbus Air Force Base, 1977-1981. He was in the Mississippi Air Naitonal Guard Jag, 1988-2006. He is now retired from the Mississippi Air Naitonal Guard.
